$350m is the estimated cost of hernia repair in Australia each year, although there is little evidence to inform best practice - and what exists is of low quality.

 

The ANZ Hernia Registry, based on established, international registries, collects local data on repair techniques, the size and type of the hernia, mesh details, and other things. PREMs, PROMs and other surveys are sent to patients automatically at pre-determined intervals, and de-identified patient data are rolled up into the modern registry for quality control and research purposes.
